Shire of the Mire Cover

An Introduction

My Lords and Ladies,

May I present The Shire of the Mire Songbook & Literary Guide to Local Swamp Life, a collection of lyrics and verses by the bards and troubadors of Thescorre, adorned by the pen work of our resident artists and a few judicious miracles courtesy of Brother Dominic.

The works were herded together and beaten into submission by Baroness Daedra McBeth a Gryphon, who accepts full responsibility (and apologizes beforehand) for such errors and omissions as may have crept into the manuscript while she wasn't looking. [Note: Likewise, some mistakes were probably made in translating this work to the web, for which I also apologize. This work is posted here with permission of the original editor. Some parts of this translation were removed at the author's request. Adelais]

The SMSLGLSL (see above) is copyrighted (1978: The Shire of Thescorre, SCA Inc.) on behalf of all whose work appear within its pages. Your help in protecting these authors' rights would greatly be appreciated. Profits from this songbook go to Thescorre's exchequer and Fewmet, Thescorre's bimonthly newsletter and birdcage liner.

Pirated tunes are acknowledged in ( ) below the title. A dot before the title indicates an original tune, which will eventually be available on tape. Titles with no other notation are strictly verse.

No song herein, however teasing its tone, is truly intended to discomfit any group or individual in the Known World.

My deepest gratitude to Annelise Dagfinsdottir and Gisela die Gelind for borders and artwork [some of which appears on this page].

The SMSLGLSL was published by Griefhaven Presses. He hopes you'll enjoy reading it.
