Adams Street Recreation Center
Steffan, seneschal
22 Thescorreans present |

1. Seneschal bid
Steffan said that he had received two bids for the office (Eldjarn and Peregrine) to replace him when he steps down in July. He asked if there were any other bids.
"Who's not here?" Alison quipped, leading to calls of the names of various folks not at the meeting. When Daedra was mentioned, Katrina happily announced that she's not available; Daedra has been elected Khan of the Moritu, and is now Her Dread Eloquence! <smile>
Steffan read the applications: Peregrine has been in the SCA for 14 years, served as the 5th baroness of Thescorre, two terms as chronicler, co-dance mistress for 13 years, event autocrat, and as head cook of one event. Her modern experience includes supervising a department, facilitating meetings, managing microbiological testing, writing reports, and having computer skills in Word, Excel, and Access. She didn’t expect to make any changes in office.
Eldjarn has been in the SCA for four years, and served as chronicler, autocrat, and reservationist/tollner. For modern experience, he noted that he has “two children to referee.” He also had no changes planned; “If it’s not broke, don’t fix it!”
Steffan handed out paper for a silent vote, and the results were 13-Peregrine, 5-Eldjarn, 1-Abstain. Congratulations and condolences to Peregrine, and vivats to Eldjarn for running. Katja asked the two to consider (privately) Eldjarn being Peregrine’s drop-dead. |

2. Pax Interruptus
We have an event in two months, Alison announced, at Genesee Country Campground in Caledonia. The site is very easy to get to, she noted, if you follow the directions she and Orianna will post. You will get *very* lost if you follow the directions on the campground’s website. It has a large field, a large wooden pavilion for the two Courts, and there will be fighting, fencing, archery, thrown weapons… and possibly a golf tournament! There is excellent parking both alongside the entry road and in a separate parking lot. Campers may be asked to park in the lot so that daytrippers can park along the road.
Alison expects that this will be a much quieter campground during the day in comparison with Junius Ponds, since it’s not right next to a highway. However, it *is* next to Limerock Speedway, and there will be a race Saturday night from 7 to 11 p.m.
Cadifor and Ruiaridh are planning a feast for 100 people. However, she cautioned, we’re not offering lunch, so please bring your own. She also recommended bringing a gallon of water for your use. |

3. Officer Reports
- Exchequer: Alina said we have $1,108.91 in savings and $3,970.65 in checking. She didn’t mention it, but she still needs a deputy.
- Thrown Weapons: Speaking for Timothy, Alison said practices are continuing on Sunday afternoons in her backyard. They normally have six attendees, and have done some royal rounds. They will have practice this weekend, but not next weekend (due to Memorial Day).
- Baroness: Peregrine asked if folks want to do a potluck this weekend at War Practice? She reminded everyone that the deadline to register online for Pennsic is June 15.
- Archery: Speaking for Cedric, Peregrine said attendance has been sparse and she invites all to come to practice. There will not be any archery practice this or next weekend.
- Incipient Baroness: Speaking for herself and Grendel, Katja thanked all those who have sent them recommendations for the Orders of the Raven’s Feather, Black Talon, and Broche. They seek more recommendations ASAP, please.
- She also said that they are proposing that this ORF poll be an electronic one (with paper ballots sent to those without email addresses, obviously). Why? Her experience with other orders seems to be that electronic ones work well at this point, and specifically it would save the barony money in postage, as well as being a speedier, better organized process.
- She recommended that it be done via emailed ballots, and did not feel it was necessary to create a Yahoo group for ORF members to join and vote that way. (“No meetings!”)
- She asked if anyone had any concerns about this proposal; there were none. She asked that if folks wanted to raise concerns in private, she would be happy to listen after the meeting or offline.
- Youth Fighting: We’ve had three practices in April and two so far in May, Mairghread said. Once again, she announced proudly, the kingdom youth champion is from Thescorre! (It just happens to be her son, Finn.)
- Chronicler: We have 38 subscriptions, of which six are expiring this month and 10 next month. Some subscribers have been delinquent for over a year, she noted, so she’s instituting a new policy that there is one month’s grace after a subscription expires, and then she halts any further newsletters.
- She added that, with the expected purchase of Microsoft Publisher, she is again considering offering the Fewmet online (as a PDF). Sorcha noted that she and Donal had mentioned this a while ago, proposing the possibility of members logging onto the barony website, entering a password, and downloading the newsletter in Word or PDF, as well as having access to archives to past issues.
- Mairghread said she is seeking suggestions on how to handle Fewmet in the future. She will bring the suggestions to a meeting so we can decide as a group.
- Chirurgeon: Phillipe is talking to Donal and Sorcha about a chirurgeonate webpage, and still inventorying the first aid kit.
- Webministers: The site is going smoothly, Sorcha said, and there are now several scribes’ lovely artwork on the Scriptorium page, thanks to Roberta (under People).
- Carlo is continuing to maintain and add nifty things to the Threadworkers page (also under People). He noted that there are now downloadable pattern files for embroidery machines (as well as preview images of the patterns, so you can see what you’re downloading). He hopes to add hand cross-stitch patterns soon; Alison offered some. The patterns, Carlo noted, were the main reason to create the webpage in the first place, so that needleworkers had heraldic patterns for favors and other items.
- Phillipe thanked Carlo, Donal, and Sorcha for creating and linking House Trillium’s webpage to the Thescorre webpage (under Links).
- A&S: First, Kadlin needs a deputy. REALLY. Second, she reported that Cooks Guild, the Scriptorium, and Threadworkers are all meeting regularly and doing stuff. Third,. her project for the summer is to create a database of the barony’s knowledge; she began this at the last social meeting, where she handed out forms to those present to share what skills they had, what they wanted to learn, and what they were willing to teach. Fourth, she seeks topics for upcoming social meetings. Lastly, her quarterly report is upcoming, so she’ll be sending out an A&S questionnaire soon on what everyone is up to.
- Chatelaine: Dubheasa said she got a message from a lady about Harborfest on June 23 to 25. This lady called last year only days before the event, so she’s giving us more time this time. Dubheasa plans to call her back and get more information.
- She added that her old workplace, DePaul, has really enjoyed the past demos and would like another one in the fall. Dancers are great, and she would like fighters and fencers if available.
- Sigvaldi added that the Marion Library is no longer planning a mini-event. Instead, it would like a series of demos on July 7, 12, 13, 14, 19, 20, 21, and 26 (all Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday evenings). At least one of them needs to be an ADEPT demo, and he urged folks that haven’t done one so far come out for this one. The other demos could be relocated guild practices (like dance or scribal…).
- The Main Game demo is July 22; this is our pay-the-rent agreement for having use of Adams Street for free. Dubheasa said that Joe, the center coordinator, has been really intrigued by the Middle Eastern dancing and drumming, and would like that in addition to fighting and medieval dancing.
- Dubheasa added that she plans to ask Tinseltown if we can do another fencing demo for Pirates of the Caribbean; Dead Man’s Chest.
- Siggy asked again for donations to the demo box. We accept all kinds of things, he said. If we can’t use it for the box, we can auction it off to afford stuff we want.
- Herald: I went to Crown Tourney and cried some of the lists, Matilda announced proudly.
- Historian: I’m taking stuff, Phillipe reported.
- Fencing: Speaking for Yasmina, Katja said practice has been happening and going well. Practice is cancelled for the next two weeks, however.
Steward: Steffan said he will have a workday in June to clean up the barony stuff… he just doesn’t know when yet. |

4. Sites, sites, and more sites
Caradawc is working on a bid for Kingdom Twelfth Night (he to autocrat, Collette to cook). He looked into the Trinity Episcopal Church site in Greece that we used a few years ago for C3R, and said it was too small, so he’s looking at other sites. However, he noted, it’s really cheap and we should consider it for other events. Katja cautioned that the kitchen was somewhat small and did not have easy access for hauling equipment in and out.
In other news, he’s the new Pennsic Chamberlain! Vivat!
Mairghread mentioned a lovely former holistic center on Hemlock Lake that she thought might be a great site, but it’s now a very unfriendly church.
Eldjarn reported that he learned McQuaid has changed its policy and is no longer renting its classrooms—only the cafeteria hall. So, it’s not viable for C3R anymore.
Peregrine noted that Joe told her the Adams Street Center will be closed for July and August due to renovations, so we need to temporarily relocate our meetings and practices.
Katrina mentioned that Joe has offered another Center for us to use, also free, during this time; the center is Danforth, on West and Aames (near Devon & Daedra’s home).
Alison commented that we could hold one meeting as a pool party at her house!
Steffan noted that we’ll probably cancel the August business meeting, but we’ll still have the social meeting. |
