Pre-Meeting Announcements:
- Nivah showed some of the lovely new aprons the Threadworkers Guild made for the Cauldron Bleu Cooks Guild. <smile>
- Matilda noted that Their Excellencies Cedric & Peregrine will need personal coronets when they step down in July and become Baron and Baroness of the Court. Orianna is collecting donations for the coronets and any amount is welcome. If the contribution is in the form of a check, please make it out to Orilee Ireland-Delfs (Orianna). Matilda accepted donations and also handed around a card for folks to sign if they wished.
- Grendel reminded everyone that the College of Three Ravens is next month, and he's accepting reservations.
1/17/06 Thescorre Business meeting
Peregrine, acting seneschal (while Steffan counted the ballots with Alina)
30 Thescorreans present
Adams Street Community Center
1. Officer Reports
- Archery: Practice will resume on Sunday, Cedric said. The archers are considering moving the practice closer to the city—perhaps Brockport?
- A&S: Kadlin is very busy being a new mommy, so she is a little behind on her reports. She asked for folks to contact her ASAP about any A&S stuff they've done recently. She very much needs a deputy—not to take over the job but to help her with paperwork and deadlines. She very much likes the idea, raised in a recent discussion on the barony Yahoo list, of having classes about activities for gentles who don't do that activity (i.e., explaining heavy weapons fighting to non-fighters). She'd like to know what classes should be taught and who is willing to teach them.
- Chatelaine: Nothing much is going on, Dubheasa said. She's going through the Gold Key.
- Rapier: Six fencers showed up at the last practice, Yasmina reported. Loaner gear is available. She'd like to see rapier classes at C3R, both hands-on and lecture.
- Heavy Weapons: Fighting is still here on Mondays, Spyke said. We've been having a really good turnout and things are working out well.
- Chirurgeon: Mick and Phillipe attended AE Twelfth Night as chirurgeons, which fulfilled Mick's final requirement for completing his apprenticeship. Hopefully, he'll be warranted soon, Phillipe reported.
- Chronicler: We have a new one (Mairghread), Eldjarn announced. (Yay!) We're getting submissions and renewals, so things are going well.
- Herald: Matilda plans to have office hours at C3R. So, if you need any help with your device or name, please see her.
- Youth Fighting: Mairghread said that we have a new marshal, Tony. There were two practices recently, and four youth fighters from Thescorre participated (in Thescorre tabards) at the kingdom champion tourney at Twelfth Night. Julian won! <smile> There will be youth fighter classes at C3R with selected adult fighters teaching the youths.
- Historian: Nothing to report yet, Phillipe said. He's seeking information on what awards gentles have received.
- Webministers: Four new people joined the Barony Yahoo list and none unsubscribed, so we’re growing, Sorcha said. Phillipe had said he’ll give them a bunch of chirurgeonate information to post on the webpage, she added, and that’s really wonderful for both newcomers and people who have been active for a while.
- Baron & Baroness:
Heavy Weapons Champs
Peregrine said that she and Cedric are trying to decide when to hold a tourney for the new heavy weapons champion; they’re looking at sometime in the spring, and would like it to be outdoors so that the competitors don’t have to worry about damaging the floor of the Center gym. Perhaps it could be a potluck?
“I know a lot of fighters who would love an actual champions event,” Spyke noted, adding that if it were outdoors that would be great. There was some discussion as to how long it has been since the Barony held an champions event as opposed to having the tourney at a practice or meeting. (It was Salmon Run.)
On a similar subject, are we ever going to bring back Sergeants & Yeomen? Phillipe asked. Yasmina said that she hopes to resurrect the event. Phillipe added that he’s looking into getting the Shriners Center in Webster to let us use the site for an event. It’s really beautiful, although it doesn’t have any showers, he said. There was some discussion (jokingly, I think?) of setting up kiddie sprinklers, a hose, or a slip-and-slide for folks to use after the fighting…
Kingdom Twelfth Night
Peregrine praised Bryn and all the Thescorreans who spent all day to make a wonderful feast. “I am blessed with amazing friends,” Bryn said, giving thanks especially to Matilda and Orianna for making tabards for the servers. She noted that it was truly a kingdom event since she had helpers from Thescorre, the Hael, Delftwood, and Coppertree, as well as someone from Atlantia.
- Cooks Guild: We have a tentative menu for C3R, Bryn added. The guild met last week to discuss the lunch for C3R and to review what Bryn learned from cooking a feast out-of-area. At future meetings, she hopes to teach redacting, breadmaking, and other nifty things. “We occasionally feed you,” she added, enticing folks to attend. Sorcha noted that she’s recently talked with Bryn and Katja about food children are likely to eat at feasts.
- Middle Eastern Dance & Drum: Stepping in for Carlo, Katja reminded everyone that practice is Wednesday and to please come wiggle and make music. Peregrine noted that Western dance is next week.
- Scriptorium: Collette announced that the group now has an alternate practice night. In addition to meeting the first Wednesday of each month, it also meets on the fourth Tuesday here at the Center. The next assignment is to work on scrolls for Glean Abhann.
- Threadworkers: The next meeting is this Sunday, starting at 3 p.m., at Juliana’s and Carlo’s, Matilda announced. The topic is lucet braiding.
- Exchequer: We have $3,469 in checking and $1,107 in savings, Alina reported.
2. College of Three Ravens
Eldjarn thanked Pleasance for the “tons of classes” planned for the event; we’re almost completely booked! The list will probably be published next week. He really needs volunteers for the event, Eldjarn stressed. Cleanup, setup, tollner—he will need a lot of hands for many things, and urged folks to consider helping out.
3. Pax Interruptus
Peregrine called for bids for the event, saying that we need to have an investiture of her and Cedric’s heirs.
4. Open Offices
There are several offices open: deputy exchequer, deputy A&S, chancellor minor. Please consider taking on an office!
5. Election Results
Steffan and Alina finished counting the ballots, and he listed the results to elect the next baron and baroness:
Eric and Katja: 47
Boldo and Noel: 28
Raibert and Nivah: 18
Since Katja and Eric received over 50% of the 1st place rankings, we don’t have to tally the second and third place rankings to determine a winner, he said.
Steffan received 152 labels from Milpitas, and mailed 140 after excluding non-residents and underage voters. Of those, 93 eligible ballots were returned.
On the group status question: there were 61 to remain a barony, 4 to change to a province, 5 for a shire, 5 to dissolve, and 18 that did not answer the question.
Peregrine thanked all the candidates for running and all the voters for voting.
- Exchequer: We have $3,469 in checking and $1,107 in savings, Alina reported.
- Seneschal: The elections are done, Steffan said.
6. Pennsic
Mick has agreed to be land agent AGAIN. He plans to send out emails about registration soon. |
