1. Pax Interruptus
We're holding the event July 22 to 24 at Junius Ponds again, Alison announced. Several folks have agreed to help with the various activities: Daedra & Fridrikr will oversee the bardic competition, Orianna is the merchants contact, Dubheasa is in charge of A&S classes, Cedric will run archery and combat archery, Yasmina will run fencing, Spyke will run heavy weapons, and Timothy & Magdalena will do thrown weapons. Nivah and Mairghread have planned several youth combat activities, including a tourney with prizes! Alison has not yet confirmed if there will be hound coursing.
Folks wanting to eat can buy a "tavern" lunch from Bryn, who is running the lunch as a baronial fundraiser. She will need cooking help before and food prep help during the event.
Alison asked to borrow pavilions from anyone willing to lend one, since we want plenty of shade on the field for the fencers and fighters. Also, we'll need lots of help setting up those pavilions and other things on Friday. There will be two portajohns on site.
Reservations are not necessary since there is no prepaid feast, Fridrikr noted, but are welcome if offered.
The event announcement will be in the June and July AEstel, is on the Thescorre website, and will be in the next Fewmet.
Fees are:
Daytrip: $5 for adults, $4 for youths 10 to 17 years old (children nine and younger can attend free). One-night camping: $8 for adults, $7 for youths. Weekend camping: $12 adults, $10 youths.
There is no family cap.
2. Thrown weapon marshal
Steffan asked for bids for this office, since it has been open for some time and he would like it to be filled.
3. Officer reports
Chatelaine: Sigvaldi and Dubheasa are taking over the office from Bronwyn. They did a fighting demo for the boy scouts a few weeks ago that went very well and everyone enjoyed. Siggy thinks we'll get more youth fighters out of it! He and Cedric are thinking about doing an archery demo for the troupe in the fall. Dubheasa said she had talked with a lady in charge of the upcoming Rose Festival about doing a demo, and was trying to convince her that we did more than just fighting. (?!) We won't be able to do the Main Game demo for the Center in July, she added, but we will "pay" our "rent" some other way.
A&S: When Dubheasa steps down, Kadelyn is taking over the office. She plans on working with Dubheasa on A&S classes for Pax.
Exchequer: We have $1,055.21 in savings and $3,103.66 in checking, Alina said. She notes that she sent in the quarterly report to the kingdom, and reminded everyone that she needs a deputy.
Herald: Matilda happily shared that she cried the lists a little at Crown Tourney and got to introduce one of the finalists in the semi-finals... who happened to win the Tourney! (His Highness, Master Robin Wallace)
Knight Marshal: Weekly practices have moved outside, Spyke said, and we have lots of new people (many youth fighters and their parents). He also showed off the great new barony shields that Anthony made.
Archery: We have also moved outdoors to RIT, Cedric chimed in.
Fencing: Sometimes we're outside, Yasmina noted. The UR students we had over the last semester are gone, but we're getting in some new people, plus we had a visitor last night from Buffalo. Once she gets the check from Alina, she plans on buying all the wonderful new equipment she asked for last month.
Chronicler: I have May Fewmets here for folks who didn’t get it at the Social meeting, Eldjarn said. He thanked all the folks who sent him submissions and urged them to keep it up.
Web: Sorcha agreed to post the Pax information to the website, and added that if any officers have forms they use on a regular basis she would be happy to upload them to the website so they're easier to access. Two new people joined the list this month. Alison asked if Sorcha could move the list of ORFs to a more obvious place on the webpage? Sorcha replied that she "hid" it since it was out of date. Several folks offered suggestions on updating the list (past Fewmets, GK's list of Order members, a past post to the list), and Sorcha agreed to update it and move it
to a more obvious location ASAP.
Chirurgeon: Phillipe has not been able to reach Astrid to get the old barony first aid kit; Their
Excellencies will try to reach her for him so that he can inventory the old one and (probably) ask for money to buy a new kit. He added that, upon request, if he buys a new kit he will remove one item that is beyond first aid so as not to invalidate SCA insurance. Phillipe also plans to contact the kingdom officer to verify whether mundanes injured at Pax will be covered by SCA insurance or only by the Good Samaritan law. Mick has offered to be an apprentice chirurgeon!
4. Guilds
Cooks Guild: Alison, speaking for Bryn, said that the next meeting is June 14 and the topic is redacting recipes (think about what you'd like to do!) and prepping food for Pax.
Drumming & Dancing: come drum and wiggle tomorrow night! said Carlo, "Drumming Marshal." (He also will teach juggling as the Jugglers, Tumblers, and Bards II event next month.)
5. Pennsic PreReg
Pre-registration ends on June 1, Mick reminded, so do it online by then (a link to the pre-reg form is on our website). If you're going to do it by mail, do it sooner! He encouraged folks to sign up with the Barony, especially if they're staying at a hotel so that the barony can have a little more space. If you plan on staying with the barony, please email him to let him know. Carlo thanked Mick for handling land grab AGAIN.
Peregrine noted that we'll kind of merge Thescorre with Newbridgge "since they’re getting bigger and we’re getting smaller."
6. Baron & Baroness Announcements
Peregrine & Cedric will swear fealty at War Practice, as well as offer gift baskets. Anyone want to join in on the potluck?
ORF nominations are open - please tell Peregrine your requests (email is fine).
Thescorre will guard the AE gates at Pennsic on Thursday of War Week.
7. Errata
Fridrikr won’t be at War Practice because it’s Brigit’s *18th* birthday. "Now all of you who remember when she came to her first event, Pax, at six weeks old, can feel really OLD now!"
Tonight’s coffee flavor was Jamaican Me Crazy, courtesy, of course, of Carlo and Juliana. :) |
