Thescorre social meeting, June 6, 2005
Adams Street Center
Steffan & Dubheasa running the meeting
28 Thescovians present
Dubheasa shared a number of things:
1. The July social meeting will be the Baronial champions tourneys for fighting (and A&S?), but not fencing. (The fencing champion tourney is scheduled for next Monday's fencing practice.)
She suggested everyone bring food to the meeting for a potluck; she also wants an A&S display on the theme of "what the SCA means to me."
2. There are two upcoming demos: the Rose Festival on
June 18 wants dancers (and fighters?), and the Harbor Fest from June 24 through 26 wants dancers and fighters for half-hour shifts, plus folks to walk around in garb and answer questions. The organizer of the second demo wants to give us $100 as a "costume stipend."
3. Dubheasa thanked Carlo and Juliana for dancing at the Brass Ring Thing on Saturday, and for inspiring her to learn drumming.
4. On a personal note, Dubheasa has a new job with normal hours so she can attend Cooks Guild,
Threadworkers, and other evening practices. Her long-running foot injury is also completely healed!
Coronation
Pleasance spoke up about her bid to do Coronation here in September. She is still looking for a site (thanks to everyone for the great suggestions!), and hopes/expects to have a bid ready by the business meeting in two weeks. Katja has agreed to cook, and plans to do a Greek/Mycenaean feast.
Phillipe noted that he is talking with the Shriners Temple in Webster and hopes to convince them to let us use that location for the event, and to let us use them in the future as well.
Guilds
Bryn asked folks to attend Cooks Guild next Tuesday as she very much needs to make vigil cookies for upcoming events; plus, she really wants to teach folks how to redact so we have more cooks in the barony.
Otelia mentioned that she will talk about period dyeing at the next Threadworkers Guild meeting; Bryn offered to share several period dyes she owns.
Pax
Having just received money, Orianna announced that she must be taking reservations for Pax... :) As to Pax news, Alison said that the Royalty may not attend the event. She is still in great need of pavilions for the event so that various areas have shade, plus people to erect the pavilions on Friday night. Please do volunteer if you can help with either.
Miscellaneous
Bryn added that her home computer finally and totally bit the dust, so folks should contact her at her work email. She'll post it to the list...
...And there was much socializing...
[Katja's editorial note: Since everyone was wondering why the heck I walked with a cane tonight... <laughs>
I was a moron and sprained or strained my leg bellydancing several weeks ago and although it's not something super bad, it's not improved. I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow. Yes, it hurts like a mother at times, but I'm sure it will get better at some point... probably if I stop running around.
I just had way too much fun jumping and hopping during several dances, and neglected to consider that pounding your barefeet on a hard floor over and over and over for an hour is not a very smart thing to do to your joints and such... but it was fun! <sheepish grin>
Please don't yell at me - I've had numerous friends tell me just how incredibly boneheaded I was waiting and that I need to sit. Besides, it's Grendel's job, so you'd be infringing. <laughs>] |
