Levels of Chirurgeons

There are four levels of chirurgeon:
- Chirurgeon In Training
- Chirurgeon
- Mentor Chirurgeon
- Chirurgeon Emeritus
Chirurgeon In Training
Chirurgeons in Training must serve an observation period for as long as deemed neccesary by Kingdom Chirurgeon. This evaluation time is done under the supervision of a warranted Chirurgeon. During the evaluation period the Chirurgeon in training must demonstrate good judgement and commen sense, ability to handle stressfull situations and remain calm, knowledge of proper medical procedure, and knowledge of SCA specific rules and practices.

Chirurgeon
Chirurgeons are at large warranted officers of the SCA, and are required to work at least one event a year to remain active on the Kingdom roster. The duties of a Chirurgeon are to provide First-Aid assistance to anyone who requests help at events or at any SCA approved function, to generate the official paperwork required in association with any medical incident, and to supervise any Chirurgeons in Training present. A Chirurgeon works any given event voluntarily and is only on duty while wearing a baldric or favor. The Chirurgeon must have access to a First-Aid kit while on duty. The Chirurgeon is also required to file all appropriate paperwork with the Chirurgeon In Charge at an event or with the Kingdom Chirurgeon.

Mentor Chirurgeon
The title of Mentor Chirurgeon is bestowed upon Chirurgeons that have been recognized by the Kingdom for exceptional service and ability. The designation of Mentor Chirurgeon is honorary and does not imply that a Mentor Chirurgeon supersedes any other Chirurgeon. The Qualifications for a Mentor Chirurgeon are the same as for a Chirurgeon

Chirurgeon Emeritus
Emeritus Chirurgeons are individuals who are not able, for non-SCA related reasons, to participate in SCA activities in the role of active Chirurgeon but who have been recognized for their experience and ability to continue to contribute to the Chirurgeonate in other ways. The warranting of a Chirurgeonate Emeritus is bestowed at the Kingdom's discretion and allows for active Chirurgeons to access that experienced individual on a consultative level. While they do not provide First-Aid at SCA functions, those individuals bearing the distinction of this honorary title are responsible for mentoring and advising Chirurgeons and other interested SCA officers on Chirurgeonate matters. They may even serve as Chirurgeon-in-Charge at events, so long as they are not involved in direct patient care. Chirurgeon Emeriti may return to their former Chirurgeonate status if, at some point, they become able to serve in that capacity once again.
